Your local, independent optician
At Mike Addison Opticians we’re proud to serve the people of the Eden Valley (and beyond).
We’re truly independent and with one practice in Appleby, another in Kirkby Moorside and our fortnightly clinic at Shap Medical Centre, we’re ideally located to help with the eye care needs of our local communities.
Eye care for all
Everything we do is done with the patients’ best interest at heart and time is taken to ensure that the patient does not feel rushed or pressurised into purchasing something they do not feel comfortable with.
Patients of all ages and circumstances are made to feel welcome. We accept both private and NHS patients and we aim provide excellent quality eye care for the whole community.
Children under the age of 16 and adults over the age of 60 automatically qualify for a NHS eye exam, as do people of restricted income and students under the age of 19 and in full time education (certain NHS guidelines and restrictions may apply).
What to expect when you visit us
Preliminary assessments are undertaken by qualified and GOC registered Dispensing Optician (DO). These assessments include retinal imaging, which is an excellent tool for monitoring or aiding the identification of conditions that can affect the eye such as diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Following these assessments, a thorough eye examination is undertaken by one of our fully qualified and experienced optometrists. Our optometrists have many years of experience within independent optical practices and have an excellent reputation for clinical excellence. The examination is structured in such a way that the patient is as relaxed as possible and every procedure is explained and the results are discussed fully with the patient.
Following the eye examination, the results are also discussed with the Dispensing Optician who can then advise on the appropriate course of action to take with regards to choosing the correct type of spectacle lenses and frames if they are needed. Contact lenses can also be considered if the patient is suitable.
